Braces Consultation on Tuesday!!!
I've been desperately trying to get braces for the last two years and I think now may finally be the time
*Crosses fingers*
This Tuesday I have a consultation/recall with my orthodontist. I went originally in March of '08 to try and get my braces started but I had bad insurance and couldn't afford the braces and the extractions!! The braces were priced out at around 5000 and the eight teeth I need extracted were about 1600 :(
I have to have my wisdom teeth removed as well as four premolar teeth two on top and two on the bottom
Anyways I recently just got approved for Vermont Medicaid until my 21st birthday and the orthodontist told me that if Medicaid deems my braces medically necessary they'll cover it 100% I mean EVERYTHING the braces the extractions even the follow up retainer work!!!!!!!!!!!I'm trying not to get too excited because I don't want to get my hopes up but I think I stand a good chance, my teeth are pretty bad after all. According to my orthodontist Medicaid has a list of 9 things that deem braces medically necessary and if I can meet two then I'm covered! I don't know what these nine things are other than having a over jet of 8mm or more, but I'll find out either way on Tuesday.
So far this is what I know about my teeth
My chin is behind my lips and the bridge of my nose in my profile. My chin is receded and not in balance with the rest of my profile. at rest my lips are open and must be strained to close them around my teeth. Moderate crowding of the upper and lower teeth exist and my upper front teeth overlap my lower front teeth very slightly. My Upper front teeth are moderately too far ahead of the lower and when I bit down my upper and lower molars bite together correctly. My upper jaw appears underdeveloped and is too far back. I have excessive vertical development of the upper and lower jaw.
I've got a good set of photo's from my orginal consultation but I can't figure out how to scan them, but as soon as I do I'll post them next because I'd like to keep track of my progress
oh and if anyone knows what the nine things are that make braces medically necessary under Vermont Medicaid let me know because I've looked everywhere online and haven't been able to find them!
